SILICONE WATER REPELLENT




A water repellent is not easily penetrated by water, especially as a result of being treated for such a purpose with a surface coating.
Silicone is a synthetic substance made from silicon a chemical compound which is used to make polishes , and also used in cosmetic surgery and plastic.
Silicones are designed inorder to gain some measure of durability as a water repellent treatment.

Characteristics of Silicones
Is a water repellent
Low heat and thermal conduction.
Low chemical reaction 
Gas is permeable.
Does not support micro biological growth.
Resistance to oxygen, ozone, and UV rays.


Uses of Silicones 
Used in construction such as a silicone rubber, sealants and also as a coating agent.
Used as a dry cleaning solvent
Suitable for electrical applications
Silicone grease is used as a lubricant.
Silicone is used as medicine.
Silicones are also used in beauty products.

Advantages of Silicone Water Repellent Properties.
Breathable coating which allows air transmission.
Easy to apply.
Low odor.
Durable
Has hydrophobic characteristics
Is a good resistant.

Disadvantages of Silicones Water Repellent Properties.
Poor ultra violet resistance.
Can stain substrates such as limestone.
Prohibits other substrate materials application over silicones.
