DIFFERENCES BETWEEN LINOLEUM AND VINYL FLOORING

For the longest time most have been confused if there is any difference whatsoever with the two flooring's namely Lino and Vinyl. That is what this article is about, distinguishing the two.

So lets start,
Linoleum is called Lino and it is made from materials such as solidified linseed oil, pine rosin, ground cork dust, wood flour, and mineral fillers such as calcium carbonate.
Vinyl is a synthetic man-made material. It is a type of plastic that is made from ethylene (found in crude oil) and chlorine (found in regular salt). When processed, both the substances are combined to form Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) resin, or as is commonly referred to - Vinyl.

Maintenance of both types are relatively low though linoleum requires a little more attention than vinyl.Cleaning of both is is easy though they use different cleaning equipment.

Linoleum is more durable compared to Vinyl, it is more long lasting type of flooring if maintained well and therefore a better environment friend than vinyl as it reduces waste.

Lino is made from natural material therefore Eco-friendly compared to Vinyl and also doesn't not emit VOCs.

Installation for both can be a DIY project as it is not as complicated but the most ideal DIY is Vinyl as it is easy to install, Lino has some precautions that need to be looked at.

Vinyl is inexpensive compared to Lino, Lino is more durable and hence more expensive compared to Vinyl although they are both affordable.

Both have design options but Vinyl is the mother of all prints and colors when it comes to flooring, It is important to note that Lino designs have a longer wear life than Vinyl.

Vinyl is waterproof as Lino is water resistant, Lino can be damaged by water over a period of time whereas Vinyl is completely waterproof.

Those are just but the major differences of Lino and Vinyl. The choice of either is relatively a now narrow decision that you must make as all the major aspects have been mentioned.

Both are great resilient flooring solutions that add on the value of your home or institution, they are not only a piece of flooring but also a piece of art that makes people attracted and appreciate the place.

EPOXY VS POLYURETHANE FLOOR COATINGS.

Both epoxy and polyurethane are great for protective surfaces.Protective against stains and damage from chemicals and other things. They are both great at light reflective, easy to clean, durable and have other similarities but  today we will just focus on the differences between the two.

To start with is that the two are the most commonly used types of resinous industrial floors.Having known that it is important that it is to note the differences before you choose.

Epoxy floors are harder, more durable and have a much higher compression strength than polyurethanes. That is why they are preferred over PU.
Epoxy floors are harder, more durable and have a much higher compression strength than polyurethanes.
Both are good chemical resistant but they only work well in different other industries,For example, PU can work well in an industry that Epoxy would not necessarily work for.
In environments where there is presence of humidity then polyurethane floor resins are extremely sensitive compared to epoxy.
Polyurethane floors have a faster curing time compared to epoxy as it is more flexible.
Polyurethane is more UV stable compared to epoxy.
Polyurethane is also a better medium than epoxy to mix in anti slip aggregate.
Polyurethane can provide a very glossy surface that gives your floor depth compared to epoxy.
Epoxy floor coatings offer better adhesion and chemical resistant properties than polyurethane coatings.
Epoxy floor coatings are the best choice for coating industrial floors and commercial floors where heavy machinery is in use and durability is a concern.

EPOXY VS URETHANE FLOORING

Most people are confused on which flooring to choose between epoxy and urethane. The good thing is you can use both urethane and epoxy.

It is accurate to say that the two have numerous similarities but they also differ in some areas.

Some of the differences between Urethane and Epoxy are:-

Epoxy
Epoxy floor coatings function more as a floor priming/resurfacing method.
Increases light reflectivity.
Great way to add color as it has a variety of colors.
They protect the floor surface.

Urethane.
Urethane is more of a wear surface protecting the epoxy.
It is an outstanding topcoat.
Provides a seamless and smooth floor coating.

Urethane is resistant to ultraviolet light and therefore preferable to paints compared to epoxy as it is not ultraviolet light resistant.
Flexibility brings forth firmness of floors and epoxy seems to have a greater strength compared to urethane.
Urethane provides seamless and smooth floor therefore offers a better smooth texture compared to epoxy.
Epoxy is better as a chemical resistant compared to Urethane as it wears faster.

EPOXY PAINT VS EPOXY FLOOR COATING.

Epoxy is a two component product consisting of one part epoxy resin and one part poly-amine hardener.

An epoxy coating cures and does not dry like paint does.

It provides a very hard and durable surface that is resistant to staining, abrasion, and chemicals.

The amount of resistance is usually determined by the quality and solids content of the epoxy.

Epoxy paint can be a do it yourself project as it easier compared to coating.Making it cheaper that Epoxy coating.

Epoxy paint is a latex acrylic product.

Epoxy paint may stain easily compared to Epoxy coating.

Epoxy floor coatings have a higher durability compared to the paint.

Epoxy floor coating systems consist of various layers while Epoxy paint is just a single coat or two.

The two terms are used interchangeably and clarification should be given as they differ in durability, layers, longevity and quality.
